Digital maturity in energy and industry

Leading up to OTD Energy 2025, we have shared experiences from projects that show how technology creates real value in the energy sector — from real-time data in drilling operations to the implementation of generative AI. In this final article in the series, we look at the bigger picture: what actually characterizes companies that succeed with digital transformation, and how small steps can deliver big results.
Technology is not the problem — it's the gap between data and decision
Most energy companies already have the technology they need. The challenge rarely lies in the tools, but in connecting technology, data, and people in a way that creates value in everyday operations. We often see the same pattern:
- Data is collected, but not actively used.
- Processes are digitized, but remain isolated.
- Projects are initiated, but do not scale.
The goal is not to be more digital, but to make the digital more operational.
From pilot to practice
At Seven Peaks, we work with companies that want to realize more value from their existing data and systems. We see that those who succeed do three things consistently:
- Start with insight, not technology. They first identify where digitalization has the greatest impact, not just which tool is newest.
- Build on what they already have. Instead of tearing down and rebuilding, they optimize existing systems and data sources, step by step.
- Ensure alignment between domain expertise and technology. Those who succeed have cross-functional teams — engineers, data people, and leadership — who together take ownership of both data and process.
This is also the core of how we work: combining business understanding, technical competence, and practical execution to deliver operational value, not just system change.
From data to decision, across domains
Our experience from energy, industry, and transport shows that the challenges are often the same, even when the context varies. Whether you work with drilling operations, energy management, maintenance, or logistics, it is about achieving better flow between data, insight, and action. A solid technological foundation makes it possible to:
- Optimize energy and resource use.
- Reduce risk through real-time decisions.
- Increase productivity with automated processes.
- Make the organization ready for AI and future requirements.
In digital maturity, the focus should not be on size, but rather on the ability to apply strategy, data, and technology in practice.
Meet us at OTD Energy 2025
Digital development in the energy sector is moving fast, but the path to real value rarely involves large, revolutionary projects. It is about starting in the right place, building on existing strengths, and collaborating with partners who understand both the technology and the domain.
📍 Meet us at OTD Energy in Stavanger, 15–16 October 2025. There we will share experiences, cases, and concrete advice on how technology can be used to make energy and industrial businesses safer, more efficient, and more data-driven.
