Charging and payment on the construction site

Naeva Charge is Naeva’s system for charging and payment on construction sites, at the office and at home. As technology partner, we designed and built the app and the platform, which handle pricing, payment, load balancing and operation of the charging infrastructure.

The challenge

Construction accounts for around 23 per cent of global CO2 emissions, and for more than 30 per cent of emissions in Oslo. Naeva aims to make construction sites emission-free. When excavators and vehicles run on electricity, charging has to be managed: capacity on site is limited, power prices vary, and someone has to pay for the power.

One app and one platform

Drivers start charging in the app or with a QR code on the charger. Whoever runs the site sees consumption, active sessions, CO2 savings and capacity per charger on the same platform.

Pricing and payment

The price per kilowatt hour can follow what the operator actually pays for power, using Nord Pool spot prices. Users pay with Vipps or by invoice, or charge for free if the owner chooses. Invoicing is automatic, and costs are split by actual consumption, including between private and business charging.

Load balancing and operations

The platform distributes power between the chargers and across the site, so capacity is used as well as possible. It shows the status of every device and alerts when something needs attention, which keeps downtime short. The charging data provides an automatic basis for environmental reporting.

Built on an open standard

Naeva Charge uses OCPP, an open standard for communication between chargers and the management system. That means most chargers can be connected, both fast chargers and standard chargers from different manufacturers. The same solution handles charging at the office and at home for employees with company cars.
